Newborn
what to think about before the shoot <3

The ideal time for Newborn sessions is the first 14 days after their arrival. The sooner, the better!

We’ll be moving them around and scrunching them into those sweet sleepy newborn images, so we want to make sure they’re sleepy enough to allow us to handle them. Plus, babies just tend to do a lot better with the session within their first 2 weeks.

How long do a newbornsession take?

Newborn sessions typically last between 2 and 4 hours. It all depends on baby’s mood and willingness to sleep. Unfortunately…this isn’t something we can predict!

The reason that this time is so variable is because every baby is different, and every day with each baby is different!

Sometimes babies snooze through all the photographs. Sometimes they need a couple of breaks for a feed, nappy change or cuddle with a parent in which case it takes a bit longer.

And if sleep doesn’t happen, then we will make it work!
Wide-eyed newborn photos are charming in its own way too.

Please bring some snax/fruit sandwich  or likewise: I promise it will be nice to have it the session takes a long time.

Preparations at home

It is important to get the best conditions for photography. So one hour before you leave your home for your newborn photography, it is important that you keep your baby awake. It could be giving it a bath. Or to showthe baby various interesting things. Tickle, cuddle and play with the
baby so that the baby stays interested and awake.

Do not feed the baby just before coming to the studio. It is better to let the baby get a little hungry. Maybe the baby is even a little ”grumpy”at first, but it is good…
We will start before the session to give the child a meal. After being awake and then getting a lot of food, this is the best recipe we can give to have a sleeping child in the studio.

Preparations may take a little more time at home but it is time that we earn again both in time and in better pictures in the studio.

Feeding the baby as much as possible during the 12 hours that precedes the session is very helpful. This is especially true for breastfed babies. Just dont fead the baby too much 2 hours before the shoot The baby will get foot just before the shoot.

As a mother of two I know this is not always the easiest, but trust med well get so much better result if you arrive  with a little hungry baby that feeds so much it falls asleep <3 .

What to bring

  • Bring a snack for yourself . The photoshoot can be long and tiring.
  • If siblings are coming, bring some entertainment for them.
  • Bring everything for changing and feeding the baby, including any special creams and products you use.
  • If the newborn has hair, bring a brush.
  • Bring any toys or props you would like to add into the photos.
  • If the baby is using the pacifier, bring that as well. It often
helps soothe babies into the poses and facilitates getting them to
sleep. If your baby is not used to a pacifier or you do not feel
comfortable offering one, do not worry, it is not a must.

Do not hesitate if you have questions. Looking forward to see you in the studio!
